Rima Kaplan was born in 1948 in Yaroslavl, Russia. In her childhood years, Rima
was encouraged to develop her artistic talents and she often copied detailed
illustrations out of books to the delight of her parents. Her artistic talent
developed further when she enrolled in the Moscow Fine Art Academy where
she graduated in 1982 as a graphic designer. Pursing the passion of her youth,
she became an illustrator for more than three decades for a wide range of
printed literature and also participated in over forty art shows in Russia
and Europe. Her art is a gentle combination of traditional decorative style
and the contemporary abstract, creating a bright colorful pallet that makes
Kaplan's art distinctively attractive.

The organic and colorful nature is rooted in Kaplan's upbringing
in the rural area of Yaroslavl. As a young girl, her days were
spent creating whimsical fantasies about the exotic far away
lands of her fairy tales, lands that were drastically different
than where she grew up. Many of Kaplan's images have a vibrant
surreal quality to them that is enhanced by her use of collage.
Kaplan uses various images and incorporates them into luminous
scenes of dreamlike consciousness that give the viewer an alternate
view of the glory of the natural world.
